Packing Tips for a Stress-Free House Move
Good packing is what separates a smooth moving day from a chaotic one. Most of the stress people associate with moving β breakages, missing items, boxes in the wrong room β comes down to how (and when) things were packed, not the move itself.
Start With a Room-by-Room Plan
Pack the rooms you use least first β spare rooms, lofts, garages, seasonal storage β and work towards the rooms you use daily. Kitchens and bedrooms should always be packed last, since you'll need them right up until moving day.
Label Everything Properly
A box marked simply "kitchen" is far more useful on moving day than one marked "misc". Label each box with its destination room and a rough idea of contents, and mark anything fragile clearly on more than one side of the box β it's easy to miss a single label when boxes are stacked.
Pack an Essentials Box β and Keep It Separate
Chargers, medication, important documents, a change of clothes, and basic kitchen items (kettle, mugs, teabags) should travel with you, not in the removal van. This one box saves more first-night stress than almost anything else on this list.
When to Call in the Professionals
DIY packing works well for most household items, but fragile collections, valuable furniture, and tight timelines are where professional packing genuinely pays for itself β both in time saved and in reduced risk of damage in transit.
